Updated, now with the correct tyres!!! This is un-driven since restoration except for a spin on the kitchen tiles to test it! So is in good condition. Please study the pictures as these form part of the description/condition. This one started out as a bit of a pipe dream! After lusting after one in the Tamiya catalogue as a boy I decided now 40 years later!! to try and re-create one. So, using a mixture of re-casts from original Tamiya parts, Shapeways and vintage parts, this is the result. I’ve tried to make it as technically/ asethetically accurate as possible and also as good condition as possible. I would describe this really as a car just to sit on a shelf. It does run and drive, but it really won’t handle well and the re-pro wheels are never going to be as strong as Tamiya originals!! This Vintage Tamiya Car from the 1980’s has been stripped down, cleaned, sprayed up & put back together again into what you see here. Everything on the chassis works & all any bits etc have been changed for good ones. The moving parts all have a little silicone grease on so as not to drip on a shelf, so for serious running it may need a decent oil up! The gearset in it is the correct vintage’live axle’ which does not have a diff -so there is lots of tyre scrub when driving on tarmac!!! Also its worth mentioning that there is a lot of play in the steering assembly on these, so a drivers car it is not! The scratch built/repro items on this model are. Wheels cast from originals, look ok but have some imperfections/casting pits & probably wont be as strong for driving around/jumps etc! So please be warned they’re ok as copies but not a patch on the originals! Front bumper assembly (mixture of castings and scratch built to pattern pieces etc) & Shapeways front Bumper. Front servo stay & body mounts. The tyres are vintage Michelin TRX originals, they ara a bit worn on the outside edges and on the inside walls and one of the fronts i did notice has a small repairable split in one, they look fine for display. The radio gear is all Acoms – 2 x Acoms AS-12 servos with an ar 201 reciever and vintage MSC with the correct 2 terminal resistors all set up and running a vintage Mabuchi 540, just need batteries to power it up & run it. It comes with an Acoms Mk3 transmitter (with no corrosion on the battery terminals) running on 27mhz spec. Ideally the acoms gear could do with being the older AS 1’s and a mk2 Tx. To be vintage correct, so if you are desperate for this please get in touch but there would have to be some cost re-negotiation! The body to this one is modified re-release, I’ve cut the arches back, not quite as much as the vintage, but enough to give it that vintage look. Its got tamiya re-release decals which went ok, it has a few bits lifting /bubbles etc. Which may need a bit of dealing with! I stopped short of cutting the co-drivers side glass out, maybe something for the new owner to do? ! So there is no aerial fitted, the its just wrapped around the plastic battery stay, will work ok at short range like this I guess! Ive had a lot of enquiries if i can drop the price, so here is a run-down of the costs involved in creating one of these….. Add to that spray paint, 20/25 + hrs to build etc and you can see why I’m not keen on dropping the price! This is priced to sell considering the hours spent and costs involved it putting it together etc, so daft offers will be turned down via the e-bay offer-o-meter dial! Thanks for looking and please get in touch with any questions, thanks. This is un-driven since restoration except for a spin on the kitchen tiles to test it! Its very nice & in very good / pretty much mint condition. I’ve tried to make it as technically/ asethetically accurate as possible but also as mint as possible! The Chassis to this one is new re-re with the bin marks sanded off! & sprayed up for better colour match. The gearbox plates and housing are new as are the cv boots. The gearset in it is the correct vintage’live axle’ which does not have a diff -so lots of tyre scrub when driving on tarmac!! The scratch built/repro items on this model are. Wheels cast from originals, look ok but have some imperfections/casting pits & probably wont be as strong for driving around/jumps etc! So please be warned they’re ok as copies but not a patch on the originals! Front bumper assembly (mixture of castings and scratch built to pattern pieces etc) & Shapeways Bumper. C17, C5 & C8 in the manual – all cast pieces so probably wont be as strong for driving around etc. The tyres are vintage, I did put on the re-release ones from a honda city turbo and they just looked a bit skinny with a smaller aspect ratio! But probably would be better if you want to drive it around These tyres have had a few splits repaired with superglue and there are some micro-cracking starting on the inside walls mostly and one of the rears had a flat spot, so has had a load of foam inserts to try and push it out, and seems to have worked ok as it doesn’t notice when you look for it. So these tyres are fine for display with plenty of tread, & look ok, but i really wouldn’t drive them heavily. The radio gear is all vintage – 2 x Acoms AS-1 servos with an arb 227 reciever and vintage MSC with the correct 2 terminal resistors all set up and running a vintage Mabuchi 540, just need batteries to power it up & run it. It comes with an Acoms Mk2 transmitter (with no corrosion on the battery terminals) running on 27mhz spec. The MSc has a bec wiring mod which means you don’t have to run it with the 4 x AA battery cage, but i’ll include one just in case you want to. The body to this one is re-release, I’ve cut the arches back, not quite as much as the vintage, but enough to give it that vintage look. So what is it for? – I hear you ask? ! Well it was supposed to be a re-creation which was just going to sit on a shelf and look like it could get/be driven, which indeed it can – but now i’ve decided to sell it as I have other projects which need’investment’! So she’s got to go! This has taken a lot of hours to get it to what it is & make it look the way it does. I hate to say this but…. But Thanks for looking and please check my feedback on restored Tamiya stuff. Thanks for looking and please get in touch with any questions, thanks.
